Marshals credit a tip in Strickland’s arrest.Strickland had been arrested and convicted of possessing cocaine with intent to sell it. But minutes before he was to be sentenced at a federal courthouse in Hattiesburg in 2007, he told his attorney he was going to talk to his girlfriend and left the building. He had been on the run ever since, until Tuesday, when marshals from the Oxford office of the Fugitive Task Force caught him in Starkville. Strickland was listed among the most wanted by Jackson County’s FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Investigators believe he is a member of the Black Gangsta Disciples street gang and has lived in Mclain and Greene County.
Justin Vickers, supervisor of the Gulfport office of the Fugutive Task Force, said Strickland has been wanted on a federal warrant for failure to appear in court since he fled the federal courthouse in Hattiesburg. The U.S. Marshal’s Office in Hattiesburg learned recently that Strickland was in Starkville and asked for assistance from the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force office in Oxford.Marshals with the Oxford office also determined that Strickland was using the alias of Nicholas Strickland.“They conducted surveillance on an address in Starkville and observed Strickland in a vehicle,” Vickers said. “They followed him to the Oktibbeha County Hospital and arrested him as he exited the vehicle.”
Vickers said Strickland was arrested without incident.
