Under the sentence imposed Friday, 26-year-old Michael Smart of Irvington, a reputed "Universal 4-Star General" in Nine Trey, must serve more than 46 years before becoming eligible for parole. A Mercer County jury convicted Smart last week on charges of racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses. Prosecutors say Smart took part in a May 2006 shooting in Irvington the left a Crips gang member injured, then fled to Atlantic City where he conspired to kill another Nine Trey member. He was one of 46 alleged Nine Trey members indicted in September 2007 after a joint investigation by the New Jersey State Police and the state Division of Criminal Justice.
