The Sons of Silence, one of the country’s biggest outlaw biker gangs.

The Sons of Silence, one of the country’s biggest outlaw biker gangs. With its headquarters in Colorado, the Sons of Silence (SOS) are known as “one-percenters” — the term given to those that operate on the fringes of an otherwise law-abiding motorcycle community. One-percenters are dedicated to principles of personal freedom and the right to self-expression. Membership is by invitation only and their motto is Donecmors non separat — Latin that is intended to translate as “Until death separates us”. At first sight, an alliance of white supremacists and biker gang members seems an odd one. Edward Winterhalder, former leader of a rival biker gang known as the Bandidos and now an author on gang culture, said: “Most of them are just regular guys who work during the week and have a little too much fun at the weekends. The majority of them are law-abiding, have families. They’re just regular neighbourhood guys. “They love their Harley-Davidson motorcycles and love their brotherhood and the camaraderie of riding their bikes. They are very pro-government, they stand behind the flag. This is something they would never be involved in. Working with white supremacists would be an extremely unusual partnership.”
But Steve Cook, president of the Mid-West Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigations Association, said that the gangs were known to have a sub-culture — and a bad element — that could sit comfortably with racist extremism.
“I have personally seen SOS members wearing hats that say ‘Dirty White Boy’, T-shirts with swastikas and other Nazi regalia. “I don’t believe that even a group like the SOS would knowingly, as an organisation, get themselves involved in something like this because nothing good can come of it for them. “But would it be out of the realms for some of their associates or a member to do something like this on his own? No. Anything is in play.”

This is nothing more than media hype. The fact is, SOS as well as every other 1%er MCs have non White members in their clubs (Hispanic specifically). This flies in the face of every White Power organization. The media marriage sells so they run with it. Ask any 1%er what comes first their club or their race and every single one will answer their club. Ask a White Supremacist what comes first and they will answer their race. The two groups are diametrically at their very core values.

For several years I was a patch holder in the Sons way back in the very early 70's and I wore a Swastika armband, along with several Nazi medals. I did so simply for Shock Effect. I wasn't a Nazi, nor did I share most of their ideas or beliefs. Matter of fact we partied with many black clubs in and around Indy, such as the Headhunters, Roadrunners and Black Stone Rangers.
And we even had a spook in the club for a time.
So for the most part, except for drug or gun deals, the two don't have much in common. Never did, never will.

i am a family member of a son who has been a member for many years. i love the idea how the television shows a few years of the club and gives very little detail on current events. fact being is that just as much as any other club there just a group of guys who like to ride and hang out. they didnt mention that the sons do much for the communities and the familys of members. they are not all "out laws". i know of many members who have not had a situation with the law at all. my point being is that scince this show had been aired and friends and family who know who my relative is automatically think they are an expert because "gangland" told them how to feel about the club....open your eyes learn the facts..there people too who are family orientated and love to ride....much love to the memebers and supporters out there!

Regular guys that love their bikes? BS!! A lot of them ARE in fact racist. Not only did they wear it, they breathed it. I remember this group to be a bunch of low lives and degenerates. Nothing about these guys was legit. A redneck version of the Italian mob with a touch of the KKK. They weren't any different than the Hells Angels or the renegade Angels known as the Outlaws. The only difference was the fact that Angels and Outlaws took other races in. You say colors was in SOS? Maybe to do the dirty work. You guys that just sugar coated your blog, don't try to fool these people. There is no glory in what you do.

THE SONS OF SILENCE ARE NOT A WHITE POWER ORANASATION NOR ARE THEY A CRINIMAL GANG.IT IS TRUE THAT IN THE PAST THERE WERE MEMBERS WHO DID IN FACT INGAGE IN DRUG AND GUN RUNNING.THEY DID THIS ON THEIR OWN AND IT WASNT A CLUB ACTIVITY. BUT TIMES HAVE CHANGED, AND NOW SUCH ACTIVITIES ARE NOT CONDONED OR ALLOWED. A MEMBER WOULD BE KICKED OUT OF THE CLUB FOR DOING SO. THE SONS ARE A ONE PERCENT MOTORCYCLE CLUB. THE POPULAR DISCRIPTION OF A 1% CLUB IS A CLUB WHOSE MEMBERS LIVE OUTSIDE THE BOUNDRIES OF SOCITIEY.BUT THE MORE INDEPT AND TRUE DISCRIPTION IS A BROTHERHOOD OF MEN WHO ARE HIGHLY DEDICATED TO EACH OTHER AND THE LIFESTYLE OF THE CLUB. THE CLUB IS HIGHLY ORGANIZED WITH CHAPTER OFFICERS,NATIONAL OFFICERS.AND A NATION WIDE NOMAD CHAPTER WHO SERVE AS THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT'S RIGHT HAND MEN.CLUB BYLAWS ARE STRICKLY INFORCED TO PROLONG THE LIFESTYLE AND LONGIVITY OR THE CLUB.

I thought this special was entertaining, so entertaining it was comical. Were they trying to make a comedy when they aired this? Many of these guys were good friends of mine and I felt they were part of my extended family. Who even makes this crap up?

oh please i live around a county that just loves it's harley's cocaine and sons of silence, why because the sons provide all three. my aunt used to ride with them as recent as the late 90's and nothing had changed from the crap they did in the 70's. they are a 1 percenter for a reason and if they have cleaned up then by all means let the national office know what these guys are doing down here in danville il, strip them of the patches and let them get ratted out and go to jail where they belong. but no then they'll just start another gang and pull the same crap. they do charity work on sunday and sell coke on sunday. all the while holding down semi legit business' but around here everyones afraid of them. personally i think they are obnoxious and wish they'd just get over themselves plus it be nice if they'd stop ruining my county with their main bread winner cocaine. as for the racism i know first had that the majority of the member around here are racist because i've been in there bars and spoke to them. and the nazi tats the have are little more than just shock value that shows a commitment to racism. tats that i have seen many many members wearing. i love what the one poster said " A redneck version of the Italian mob with a touch of the KKK" sums up how i feel about them perfectly

This is kinda funny that most of you antis have worse grammar and spelling than the supporters. A club/gang is made up of individuals each are capable of making thier own choices and responcible for their own actions. I've only met one person who was associated with the son of silence who i'll admit was pretty shady, however I refuse to judge the entire group off of one individual. I've grown up around bikers and I can say that the whole motorcycle community is looking up I know several guys who ride with the patriot gaurd. Most of them that i know are anti-gay yet this group blocks the veiw off protestors (that typically target gay and military funerals) from the families of the dead. I am some what anti militay (because if I ever killed I would want to do it on my terms and for personal reasons) but I still support what these guys do it's a respect issue not what they did while they were here. Also therecs no way for the governing members to keep tabs on every soul that belongs at all time and activities are sure to vary from area to area. Everybody and everything is corrupt these days anyway. This gang is no differnt than the remainder of american society today and I refuse to judge them as a whole on a few bad apples. I support their goals, if they accompish them we're up, if they don't we break even.

There definitley are 2 sides to these comments. I found it rather educational. I did like the comment by Nomad John on his opinion on what a club is. How he said that the club member's are highly dedicated to one another. I have never been in a club but would have to say that if you are not willing to go all the way for your brother then what is the point of being in the club.
